Set between 1962 and 1974, John Milius' Big Wednesday is the story of three surfing buddies, Matt (Jan-Michael Vincent), Jack (William Katt) and Leroy (Gary Busey). It tells of their fights, their loves and the hero worship that follows them as they conquer the foam. When the boys are called to serve up in Vietnam, Matt and Leroy evade the draft, but Jack submits voluntarily. As the years pass, the war takes its toll (not only on the battlefield), and their ebullience dims. As directed by authentic American maverick Milius (director of Conan The Barbarian, writer of Apocalypse Now), Big Wednesday is a fascinating chronicle of friendships and lifestyles in transition that captures some of the most spectacular surfing footage on film.
