Directed by Francois Ozon, 8 Women is a delightful and unconventional tongue-in-cheek thriller – part murder mystery, part musical – featuring some of the greatest actresses in French cinema. It is Christmas and a family gathers to celebrate the festive period with wealthy industrialist Marcel at his isolated country manor. There's Marcel's elegant wife Gaby (Catherine Deneuve), his daughters Suzon (Virginie Ledoyen) and Catherine (Ludivine Sagnier), his sister Pierette (Fanny Ardant), his mother-in-law Mamy (Danielle Darrieux), his sister-in-law Augustine (Isabelle Huppert), the housekeeper Madame Chanel (Firmine Richard) and the sexy chambermaid Louise (Emmanuelle Beart). When Marcel is discovered murdered, suspicions rise as the women find themselves snowbound in the house. Featuring vivacious performances, 8 Women is a stylishly executed and shot film, full of barbed wit and highlighted by a series of dazzling song and dance numbers.
