Sex: The Annabel Chong Story (1999) |

Canadian Gough Lewis' documentary takes an unflinching look at two years in the life of Singaporean-born porn star/artist Annabel Chong (nee Grace Quek), during which she has sex with 251 men in 10 hours for a porn shoot in order to break the record held by an Amsterdam sex worker. To offset Chong, Quek's giggly porn persona, Lewis portrays Quek eloquently interacting with professors at USC (where she is earning a BA in Fine Arts) and speaking candidly to the camera about the events which led to her involvement in the porn industry, as well as negotiating with stereotypically sleazy producers. Though she claims early on that her career choice was meant to make a statement concerning gender roles, it takes on a new light when it is revealed that a string of tragic events have colored her life. Things turn especially poignant when a journey home to Singapore finds her embroiled in a tearful on-camera exchange with her mother after she learns of Grace's involvement in pornography- something which can shamefully brand a family name in the strict culture of that country.
