Limbo

synopsis

Set in small-town Alaska, John Sayles' Limbo is the story of Joe Gastineau (David Strathairn), a fisherman traumatised by an accident at sea years before. Into Joe's landlocked life comes Donna de Angelo (Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio), a nightclub singer with a habit of picking rotten male companions, and her troubled teenage daughter Noelle, who's filled with self-loathing and tired of her mother's relationships. When Joe captains his ship on a mysterious sea voyage, the lives of the three characters are changed forever. Against the backdrop of a vast, challenging wilderness, Limbo tells the dramatic story of three people who come together to face their own demons and learn the very nature of risk.
