Zero Mostel reprises his Tony Award-winning role in this gloriously funny screen version of the Burt Shevelove/Larry Gelbart/Stephen Sondheim stage hit that garnered six Tonys, including Best Musical. He plays Pseudolus, a Roman slave who can win his freedom only if he pairs his innocent young master with the virgin courtesan next door! Mostel’s not the only titanic talent on the screen. Baggy-pant immortals Phil Silvers and Buster Keaton are also part of the Forum quorum, as are Michael Crawford and Jack Gilford. Director Richard Lester (A Hard Day’s Night, Help!) sets his cast scampering through hilarious doings full of outrageous gags, gorgeous girls, mistaken identities, stunning surprises, cunning disguises and such keen-witted Sondheim songs as 'Comedy Tonight', 'Lovely', and 'Everybody Ought to Have a Mai'”. Scripted by Melvin Frank and Michael Pertwee, this wacky comedy is a titillating and tawdry, boisterous and bawdy tour of farce, frivolity and fun. *MR
