Monkey Grip is a film about the complication of love, desire and freedom. Nora (Noni Hazlehurst), single with a young child (Alice Garner), still wants to live the life of a young artist, as do her friends, a group of writers, singers and actors (including Christina Amphlett from The Divinyls). In spite of all her resolutions she is drawn into an obsessive , passionate affair with Javo (Colin Friels), a heroin addict, and struggles to overcome the complications of love, desire and freedom in order to regain control of her life. Directed by Ken Cameron (My Brother Jack), featuring the music of The Divinyls (Boys In Town, Only Lonely) and with a stunning delivery by Hazlehurst, Monkey Grip brings to life an intelligent, searching script, based on Helen Garner's award-winning novel.
