synopsis

Four ordinary men, descending on a river they've only seen on a map, determined to test themselves against the wilderness they think they understand. They discover a backwoods world filled with hillbilly cut-throats and teeming with violence. John Voight is Ed, the advertising man, opposed to violence. Burt Reynolds, as Lewis, is the man of action who plans and leads the adventure. Ned Beatty is the soft, city-bred Bobby, and Ronny Cox is the quiet, humanistic Drew. Deliverance is their story.
