A follow-up to the 1988 film Tetsuo (also known as Tetsuo: The Iron Man) that is less sequel than more-expensive remake, Tetsuo II: Body Hammer revisits director Shinya Tsukamoto's vision of a post-industrial Tokyo where man and machine have begun to merge. Tomoroh Taguchi still plays the title role, although the first film's single salary man has been replaced by family man Taniguchi Tomoo. When his child is kidnapped by a pair of skinheads, Tomoo's stress and anger triggers his transformation into a fearsome cyborg, a hybrid between a human being and a piece of high-powered weaponry. His new body attracts the attention of the leader of the skinheads -- who turn out to be cyborg mutants themselves. The leader (portrayed by Tsukamoto) performs several experiments on Tomoo, which accelerates his metamorphosis into an even more powerful, horrifically deadly sort of industrial creature. This monster ends up warring against the leader and his gang, leading to a series of heavily violent and highly destructive battles.
