Joseph Losey's The Romantic Englishwoman is a drama about the conflict of life, love and sex in a modern marriage. A sucessful novelist's wife (Glenda Jackson), attractive but strangely unfulfilled, suddenly decides to take a holiday at a German spa. It is a holiday that has a devastating effect on her life and marriage. A casual encounter with a handsome young man (Helmut Berger), who lives by his wits - and off rich woman - creates a triangular situation that she cannot control. But did the violent seduction at the great hotel at Baden-Baden really happen? Or did she only imagine it? Was it all a plot constructed by her husband (Michael Caine) out of his own jealous fantasies? With a screenplay by Tom Stoppard and Thomas Wiseman, this outstanding film sets its impressive cast in international locations throughout Europe.
