It's hard to imagine a better film project for the yet-untried Errol Flynn to have made his starring debut than ''Captain Blood''. Based on the novel by Rafael Sabatini, it is the story of an English surgeon wrongly condemned to prison. Flynn, playing Dr. Peter Blood, escapes and leads a revolt of his fellow prisoners. He seeks retribution by turning them into a pirate crew and himself into the head pirate, Captain Blood. With the bold declaration, ''we the hunted will now hunt,'' he founds the 'Brotherhood of Buccaneers' to fight the villainous James II. This film launched the career of Errol Flynn and marked a major turning point in that of its director, Michael Curtiz.
