The original version of George Sluizer's masterpiece, one of the best suspense thrillers ever made. Based on the novel 'The Golden Egg' by Tim Krabbe, The Vanishing is among the strongest Hitchcockian thrillers to come out of Europe and boasts a terrifying ending. Whilst touring in France, a young couple (Rex and Saskia) stop for a break at a roadside service station. Saskia leaves Rex to browse around the shops and vanishes leaving no trace or clues as to her whereabouts. Three years later Rex begins to receive taunting postcards from Sakia's supposed abductor and is drawn into a terrifying game of cat and mouse in his desperate quest to discover the fate of his missing lover...

The antagonist is creepy and a master manipulator, praying on people in normal every day situations makes. This not a good watch for the paranoid!
