A bitter-sweet but ultimately life affirming, tragi-comedy from William Hurt, Kathleen Turner and director Lawrence Kasdan. Macon Leary (William Hurt), is the creator of The Accidental Tourist – a travel guide for businessmen who would rather stay at home. His marriage to Sarah (Kathleen Turner) has worsened since the tragic murder of their only son, a year before. As despair seeks to overtake them, Sarah asks for a trial separation and Macon agrees, unable as always to show his true emotions. Life settles into a safe routine but this routine is thrown into turmoil when Macon meets Muriel Pritchett (Geena Davis), an eccentric dog trainer determined to change his set ways. But you can't teach an old dog new tricks... Caught in a vulnerable eternal triangle, Macon must weigh the safety of his routine existence against the possibility of a chaotic relationship. To further complicate matters, his estranged wife now seeks reconciliation. Quite suddenly, this shy, introverted man, so recently cocooned in the safety of his own despair must choose between two adoring women and a new exciting life.
