“Caligari is one of the genre’s masterpieces because, rather than providing visceral shocks, it plays games with the mind & the seat of all fear. The eccentric imagery, the creepy acting, the dark deeds and the ambiguous ending all create a lingering sense of unease. And that’s what horror should do.” (Empire)
