Award-winning director Emir Kusturica (Black Cat, White Cat) brings to life an exuberant tale of star-crossed lovers, full of wine, song and dancing.
Much to his family’s disgust, mild-mannered Luka has moved them to the remote mountain town where he is building a scenic railway. Somehow ignorant to the drums of war, Luka’s life is turned upside-down when the conflict breaks out, as his opera diva wife runs off with a musician and his son Milos is called to the front. Now Luka finds himself in charge of a prisoner-of-war, a pretty young Muslim nurse called Sabaha. A plan is hatched to exchange Sabaha for his own POW son—but in the midst of the chaos around him, Luka has managed to fall in love.
An irresistible blend of riotous humour and love story, set against the turbulent backdrop of the Bosnian war of the early 1990s, Emir Kusturica’s Life is a Miracle is filled with a wonderfully eccentric bunch of characters, marauding bears and lovesick donkeys.
