synopsis

Originally shown as part of the World In Action television series, 7 Up broke new ground in British documentary filmmaking when it aired in 1964. Seen as a snapshot of the nation's future, a group of 7-year-old children, all from different walk of life, were asked about their attitudes towards life, society and culture, including their hopes and dreams. The Up Series had begun its enthralling narrative. Seven years after 7 Up, director Michael Apted returns to interview the original group of children, who openly share their views on love, racism, money, marriage, school and home. Now 14, and entering their formative years, the ways in which the attitudes of the Up children have changed - or remained the same - make for an intriguing contrast to the original film.
