Camille Claudel 1915

synopsis

In a performance of heartbreaking intensity, Oscar winning Juliette Binoche (The English Patient) portrays the tragedy of sculptor Camille Claudel, who is consigned in Winter 1915, to an asylum in the South of France. Committed by her family, where she will never sculpt again this is the true life chronicle of Camille Claudels reclusive life, as she waits for a visit from her younger brother, the poet and diplomat Paul Claudel. Her all encompassing obsession that she is being persecuted by those who envy her as well as by her former lover Auguste Rodin, leads to her incarceration her creativity withering away. She is desperate to see her brother again, hoping he might eventually support her plea, that she is sane. Award winning Director Bruno Dumons stunning portrait draws on historical medical records and Claudels written correspondence with her brother, who was instrumental in her confinement.
