From the unique perspective of Oscar-nominated filmmaker Spike Jonze (Being John Malkovich, Adaptation) comes an original love story that explores the evolving nature - and the risks - of intimacy in the modern world. Set in the Los Angeles of the slight future, HER follows Theodore Twombly (Joaquin Phoenix), a complex, soulful man who makes his living writing touching, personal letters for other people.
Heartbroken after the end of a long relationship, he becomes intrigued with a new, advanced operating system, which promises to be an intuitive entity in its own right, individual to each user. Upon initiating it, he is delighted to meet "Samantha" (Scarlett Johansson), a bright, female voice, who is insightful, sensitive and surprisingly funny.
As her needs and desires grow, in tandem with his own, their friendship deepens into an eventual and unconventional love for each other. Breaking the paradigm once again, writer/director Spike Jonze has created a thought-provoking love story that reflects the impact of ever-evolving technology on our personal lives.

A romantic social critique of technology that over

I can imagine that many watching this can relate to the growing need to connect with tech more and more and see this story as a near future reality. Unfortunately for me I didn't see the idea as so profound to justify such a lengthy exploration. All characters seemed self absorbed, over analysing their every oversensitive thought of their extremely privileged lives, failing to render sympathy from this viewer. The conversations border on the hipster mumblecore genre, I was so glad when it finally brought on the obvious ending. But hey, going by the general consensus, you will probably enjoy this more than me. It was visually stunning and well acted.
