After a stint as missionaries in China, Americans Roy (Woody Harrelson) and Jessie (Emily Mortimer) decide to take the legendary Transsiberian Express home from Beijing via Moscow. They find they are sharing their sleeper with a dark, sexy Spaniard, Carlos (Eduardo Noriega), and his American girlfriend Abby (Kate Mara), making their way home after teaching in Japan. When trainspotter Roy gets separated from the others at Novosibirsk, Jessie begins to realise that her matryoshka-loving cabin-mates aren't exactly who they seem to be. Enter Narcotics Officer Grinko (Sir Ben Kingsley) on the trail of a deal gone sour in Vladivostok, a handgun and a sinister sidekick (Thomas Kretschmann,) and suddenly they're on the train ride from hell
