Howard the Duck

synopsis

Howard the Duck has attained cult status for having been one of the highest budget flops in Hollywood history. Universal Studios executive Frank Price was asked to resign...and did. Heavyweight producer George Lucas was humiliated. But people have since grown fond of this peculiar comic-book adaptation with its classic 80s soundtrack and wry humour. Director Willard Huyck and producer Gloria Katz - the husband and wife team that wrote George Lucas' American Graffitti and Steven Spielberg's Indiana Jones And The Temple Of Doom – adapted the witty Marvel Comic that sees a humanoid duck from another planet land in America and attempt to save earth from the forces of evil. A duck like no other, Howard drinks beer, chomps on cigars, reads PlayDuck, watches films like Splashdance, and finds himself attracted to a sexy rock singer named Beverly (Lea Thompson), whose manager Tim Robbins offers further comic relief. Wry, sarcastic, and featuring a hilarious love scene between Thompson and the duck, the film today stands as feel-good 80s classic.
