From the writer of My Beautiful Laundrette and Sammy and Rosy Gets Laid, Hanif Kureishi, comes this prophetic tale of cross-cultural strife in 90s England. Australian starlet Rachel Griffiths (Six Feet Under, Hilary and Jackie) is brilliant as a young prostitute (Bettina) who forms a warm bond with Pakistani taxi driver, Parvez (Om Puri). But when Parvez links Bettina with a predatory German businessman - played with cold venom by Stellan Skarsgåard (Breaking the Waves) – he begins to discover his growing feelings for the fetching street worker.
