Douglas is an ex New York cop who turned in his badge after roughing up a crook or two in the cause of justice. He is hired as a private eye by a lawyer friend (Wallach) who has an attractive client (Koscina) who is accused of murdering her wealthy husband and is in need of protection. Douglas becomes busy warding off assorted thuggish intruders with one hand, while romancing the lady with the other.
