The Duchess of Duke Street - BBC TV (Disc 5 of 5)

synopsis

London at the turn of the century is a city of horse-drawn cabs, gas lighting, great wealth and even greater poverty… and it's a city of opportunity for scullery maid Louisa Trotter, who rises to become hostess, entertainer and friend of princes and kings. Beautifully presented in a five-disc box set, for the first time on DVD comes this wonderful BBC series created by John Hawkesworth, the man behind ‘Upstairs, Downstairs’ and starring Gemma Jones

Season 1, Episode 13: One Night's Grace
Original Air Date: 27 November 1976
All are intrigued when an attractive young lady asks to see Lord Haslemere -- who is she, what does she want, and more to the point, what is she after?

Season 1, Episode 14: Plain Sailing
Original Air Date: 4 December 1976
Louisa turns the air blue, but hardly a sedate navy, when she buys a summer resort adjacent to a posh private club at Cowes.

Season 1, Episode 15: A Test of Love
Original Air Date: 11 December 1976
With the death of His Majesty, King Edward VII, an era ends for Britain and for Louisa Trotter. Pressing forward, however, Charlie Tyrell (Lord Haslemere) has proposed to lovely Margaret Rosslyn and the newlyweds leave the Bentinck to live in a suitable house and start a family.
