The Prisoner - Volume 2 of 5 (Episodes 5-8)

synopsis

Following his resignation, a high ranking Government Official is abducted from his home and taken to a picturesque seaside location known as "The Village". However, the idealic surroundings hide a sinister world where "guests" are simply labelled as numbers and escape is impossible. His captors want secret information and will use any means to obtain it - give in and you'll be left to live out your days as a brainwashed member of the community - rebel and your stay will be far from pleasant.

With escape the objective, THE PRISONER must also strive to maintain his identity throughout the clever methods of interrogation employed by his abductors, whilst pursuing his obsession to discover "Who is Number 1?"

Can they break him?
How far will they go?
Or can THE PRISONER escape and outsmart them all?

First screened in 1967, Patrick McGoohan's television masterpiece has refused to be resigned to the past with new generations discovering its unique plots, colourful production values and striking images.

The Schizoid Man:
Never mind who is Number 1 – just who is Number 6? The Prisoner awakes in a new apartment to find his appearance has changed overnight & is now suddenly left-handed. He is greeted by all as Number 12 whilst an identical twin is parading The Village claiming to be Number 6. Has he been driven mad, or could the masquerade be used to his advantage?

The General:
A 3 year university course in 3 minutes? It’s possible with SPEEDLEARN, a new subliminal teaching process devised by the mysterious General & taught by The Professor. Even The Prisoner is a top pupil – but a warning from The Professor leads Number 6 to believe the process could be used to teach more than just history.

Many Happy Returns:
No morning wake up call? The Village is deserted and the prisoner seizes the moment to escape. Building a raft & gathering supplies, Number 6 sets sail for several weeks. Following a tumultuous journey, he makes it back to London, discovering a “Mrs. Butterworth” driving his car and living in his home. Yet despite his escape from The Village the question still remains – who can he trust?

Dance Of The Dead:
It’s carnival time in The Village but The Prisoner is in no mood for celebration. Upon discovering a dead man on the beach, Number 6 plans to send the body back to sea complete with a rescue note. But his plans are foiled when the body is discovered leading to a bizarre trial where he is sentenced to death.
