A Canadian / American photographer receives an assignment to make twelve images for a calendar. These twelve images ore of twelve historic churches in Armenia. He travels to Armenia with his wife, who also serves as a translator.
The couple are driven from one location to another by a guide who explains the history of each location in Armenian. Over the course of the visiting the twelve sites, the photographer's wife / translator falls in love with the guide. The photographer returns to Canada with twelve images, but without his wife.
Over the course of the calendar year, the photographer tries to write a number of letters to his estranged wife. He also invites a number of guests to his house. He finds that the presence of these guests' help him write his letters.
The calendar year ends. Life goes on.
