Legendary Japanese director Akira Kurosawa's last film is a homage to the man who inspired him. Warm, sentimental and rousing, Maadadayo means not "not yet" in English, and tells the story of a retired teacher with a renowned lust for life, and the devoted students who maintain contact with him. Through war and occupation, they meet annually to toast the professor's birthday, asking "Are you ready (for the end)?", to which he replies, "Not yet!"
