Italian Film Festival 2004: Disc 2 (Caterina in the City / After Midnight)

synopsis

Caterina In The City When her parents move from a small town in Tuscay to an apartment in Rome, fifteen-year-old Caterina is ready for something new. Her father (Sergio Castellitto), a teacher in a tech school, has undisguised social ambitions and is delighted to see a list of famous names attending his daughter's new high school. As the naive and honest Caterina becomes drawn into both the left-wing and right-wing cliques of her class, the schoolyard politics begin to mirror contemporary Italy's great political divide. This delightful film was an enexpected Italian box offic smash hit and should not be missed! After Midnight Set in the magical place in the city of Turin, After Midnight tells the story of awkward and gentle Martino, a night watchman at Turin's Museum of Cinema. He spends his nights dreaming about black and white images of old films. When Amanda, a young woman running from the police, finds refuge in the museum late one night, their meeting is a wondrous though shattering discovery for both. As Amanda's boyfriend Angel keeps the police at bay, Amanda is gently seduced by the Museum's arry of cinematic wonders. Love, film citations and pensive commentary about the differences between reality and cinematic representation poetically interweave to create a unique and touching homage to the movies.
