A classic screwball comedy replete with improbable scenarios and acerbic wit, Billy Wilder's first film as director was a hit that kick-started his long and hallowed career. Is She A Kid - Or Is She Kidding? In New York for only one year and already modern girl Susan Applegate has had 25 jobs. Brandishing the $27.50 she set aside to pay for her trip home to Stevenson, Iowa, Susan is astounded to find that fares have gone up. She disguises herself as a 12-year old girl to travel at half price-but the conductors aren't taken in by her act. Desperate to elude them, she bursts into the cabin of the dashing bachelor Major Philip Kirby, who takes what "Sue-Sue" says at face-value. Add a compromising situation, the Major's fiancee, her father - his commanding officer - and a college full of virile cadets, and Sue-Sue's charade is getting harder, and funnier, by the minute.
