In depression hit 30’s New York Ann Darrow (Naomi Watts) is a beautiful young actress struggling to find a job after losing her role in a vaudeville theatre which has been shut down. Her luck changes when she meets an over ambitious filmmaker, Carl Denham (Jack Black), who coaxes her to join his film shoot on a remote island. Falling for stranded playwright Jack Driscoll (Adrien Brody) on the voyage she is taken prisoner on arrival to the island by the indigenous tribe’s people and left as a sacrifice for the ape-god Kong. Ann begins a relationship with Kong in which she learns the meaning of humanity and compassion as he protects her from the dangers lurking on the island. Jack leads a successful search party into the island to rescue Ann but the mighty Kong is also captured and brought back to New York. Escaping from Denham’s stage show, Kong rampages through New York City until he is reunited with Ann – only for destiny to intervene with tragic consequences.
