Dark Water

synopsis

Dahlia Williams (Jennifer Connelly) is going through a messy divorce and custody battle with her cheating, soon to be ex-husband Kyle (Dougary Scott). Psychologically fragile yet fiercely protective of her daughter, she's determined to be independent and put her old life behind her. She moves to New York's Roosevelt Island, in a community built in the 'brutalist' style. Deluges of gloomy rainfall drench the island. The apartment that Dahlia and her daughter move into is dark, dank and has a consuming feeling of dampness - but at least it's next to one of the best schools in the state. The mystery begins with a dark stain on the ceiling of Ceci's (Ariel Gade) room which soon turns into a persistent leak and leads to water gushing from taps, washing machines and walls. Mysterious goings on in the supposedly empty apartment directly above causes Dahlia's imagination to run wild and question those around her.
